Marantz PM7003 vs PM6004

Hey ,

I was looking for a marantz pm6004 int amp to match with my recently bought Q acoustics 3020, but instead i found a pm7003 at 350€. Since i don't know much about this pm7003, i was wondering if i should keep searching for the pm6004. What's your opinion guys?

the marantz pm6005 is a good amp at £299 i would of thought there would not be much in with the pm7005 its only a bit more powerful then the pm6005 and you get the mid range knob . i have just upgraded from a pm6005 to a marantz pm8005 which is 2 amps up from the 6005 which i can tell its better then the pm6005 is with sound and build but the pm6005 is a good sounding amp for the money and will drive your speakers ok

I believe all the recent Marantz budget components have been reviewed positively. So the 7003 might be as good as a 6004, check some reviews online and factor in that you won't be able to include digital sources (which is only possible since the latest iteration).

I own both the 6004 and 7003 and can inform you that both are very good amps. The 6004 also should have ample power to drive your speakers. The 7003 has even more power and should handle your speakers even better. I don't know where you live but the prices you mentioned are quite high. I live in the Netherlands and I just bought a mint PM8003 for 335 euro for example.

It's hard to advise you on which amp to go for. I like both amps very much and they sound quite the same. It comes down to which amp you run into. Below I have summed up som pros and cons:

PM6004

-newer than 7003

-loudness button

-torroidal transformer although I'm not sure if this is an advantage

PM7003

-more power

-more substantial in both size and weight

-better looks ( I know, very personal)

-power direct mode for integrating home cinema receiver (ht through pass)

-more expensive

i did not think you could still get the 6004 -7004 unless secondhand as they have been replaced by the 6005 & 7005 ?

Thanks for your answer man, you really helped me a lot.
I leave in portugal and this type of hardware here are a bit more expensive since our second hand market sucks. Thank god for ebay!

I'll probably go for the pm6004. I think I can get one for around 200/250€ through ebay, and the 7003 sounded to me a bit expensive.

Good choice. You won't miss out very much in comparison to the PM7003. Hope you find a mint PM6004 soon! By the way: I just sold my mint 3 year old PM6004 for 225 euros through the dutch Marktplaats.
