Mains Conditioner upgrade?

Hi,

Currently use a Tacima Mains Conditioner which has perhaps generated the greatest improvement in my kit. Was looking to order Mains Cables this week but many on here suggest that conditioners offer the greatest improvements.

Still getting varying amounts of noise though, but can't expect the world for £30.Still a bargain mind.

So what would be a good upgrade to this basic conditioner? Up to perhaps £100 would make it more cost effective Vs cables alone.

Like the Clearer Audio kit and got great response from them regards cable options but don't know if their mains hubs condition or not.

or am i maybe better off replacing mains cables after all?

Thanks

How are you judging this?

Assuming you're not getting "noise" from any faults, etc., have you had your power supply checked out by an electrician? Have you swapped stuff out - e.g. tried a different amp? Usual stuff.

If you have to try a mains conditioner if that's the problem, get a hold of a BT Mains Conditioner - massive things, you can sometimes get them on Ebay. I have one and it made no difference to me. The system sounds good off the mains without it as it does with it. One less link in the chain suits me fine. And I'd question the kind of belief/logic that says systems are vastly improved just by using them per se. Changing the main components or moving the speakers will almost always yield greater returns all other things being equal.

Mains can be a tricky issue - can you summarise your system in full and how it's all plugged in? May be able to offer more specific advice then.

Hi all,

Since posting this i have changed the HDMI cable to a .75m Chord Active and things have really improved. I was using a 1.5m one that i got free with subscription but the shorter cable has controlled the noise i thought was coming from the mains. Its true WHF shorter is better! Very impressed actually.

See without the conditioner our mains are very poor and noisy. Thought the issue was noise into the sky box as BD on TV was not affected. Have since re-sited all cables to stop overlaps. Didn't think it was the HDMI lead as i was using quality kit.

Still have heard of people changing the power lead on the Sky HD box to great effect so will probably just change that for a little performace boost and a bit more shielding from my other kit.

Thanks all

You would definitely benefit from a decent mains transformer (BT, sold on ebay) or a true balanced transformer like I have (A tad more expensive though)

Out of curiosity, could a decent Mains Conditioner perform the duties of a Cyrus PSX-R box? Do they not share the same principle but tackle the problem from a different angle?
