I have a Marantz cd6004 and Sony es 1200 av amp in need of mains cable upgrades obviously I do not want to spend massive amounts to get decent qaulity upgrades IEC cables , also I spotted a IEC RHODIUM CABLE PLUG which you just add the old cable to it by cutting off the moulded IEC and attaching the plug or add ready made sheilded cable . I remember years back when I bought a IEC plug then attached 2.5mm twin and earth mains cable but it was not easy as twin and earth cable is not what you call pliable .So with a budget of £50 for both cables please feel free to suggest a upgrade ,please dont bother if you have not used it in your system and its made no impact only suggest what has worked for you also willing to put plugs on the end of existing wire if thats more cost effective .Thank you all very much for any suggestions you make

Hi davegrohlrocknroll

:rockout:

If you can up your budget an extra £20 you can get two decent entry level IEC cables from the Mains Cables R Us website. I use some of these in my system and can confirm that for the money they look like a more expensive cable, are of a quality construction and in my opinion have made a difference to the equipment that they are connected to.

In answer to some of your other points raised, don't bother to attach new plugs to your existing cable as I don't think it would make any difference to what you are using now, ISO cables are used inside computers and I have also tried using 2.5mm mains cable to make up leads, but they looked cheap, weren't very flexible and as regular 2.5mm has no screening they caused some hum issues with the connected equipment.

hope this gives you something to think about.

( lets hope this doesn't turn into a argument about whether cables make a difference like most of the other posts on these forums regarding cabling )

Do a search of the WHF forums as there are a number of threads about this which should give you some thoughts.

Also make sure you can return the cables for a full refund so that when you find they make no difference to the sound you can get your money back.

Hope this helps

Bill

Hi davegrohlrocknroll.

Sorry about forgetting that, the cable I was referring to on the Mains Cables R Us website is the number 14 silver plated mains plug to IEC connector, one meter length. Its part of their own range of cables,

I must admit I forgot about ebay when replying to your post, many companies use it to sell items at below retail prices,

I further agree with your point of not buying cables from abroad, there are plenty of suppliers in the UK, plus if you change your mind its easy to return.

happy listening, let us know how you get on.

Thanks Macdiddy I will give them a look I actually posted the wrong cable hard day at the office it was actually CHORD COMPANY SUPERSCREEN I was supposed to put but got my cables muddled up old age creeping up I guess. And yes UK only for me as who knows what the heck you get from hong kong but they do look good still not tempted . Cheers any how keep everyone posted all the best Dave G. 🙂

It seems that the CHORD COMPANY SUPERSCREEN is no longer , so looking at alternatives by Audio Friendly on the bay I know some have already purchased off these people and seem happy and the 1 metre audio gold looks extremely good value for money so might be thats what will be purchased and at a reasonable £32 for the spec is pretty good .So lets see what transpires in a couple of weeks I will get one ordered and installed and update then. anyone with other suggestions feel free please many thanks DG.

Clearer Audio Copper Line Alpha One - add 2 supressors and 3 days on the cable cooker - about £45 - be an upgrade to whatever you plug it into.

i would pay a bit more if your putting it on an amp - maybe get the £68 one again 2 super supressors and 3 days on the cable cooker!!!!
