Mains cable extentions

I'm condering buying a mains cable extention for my hifi and TV because when I move the hifi the nearest power point will be 2m away, do you have any experience with either of these:

-1 for hifi.....great for tv though. For hifi just buy a cheap non surge protected lead.

The second one does 6 and 8 sockets, but may be more than you wish to spend.

Edit. The first one is 6 way....and costs £50 with 2m cord.

I used the Tacima extension block in my main system in the pass, but found no problem with it. Every thing went into the block apart from my amp, which was direct to the mains. Now using it in a second bedroom system.

Which one there were 2 posted, 1 is sturge protection and the other is Mains conditioner and Radio filter?

I think I will go for the sturge one, if no good I will use for the computer etc.

I don't know where these peculiar ideas originate, but let me assure you that is not the case. In order for the Tacima to do that it would need to cause a significant voltage drop in the circuit and then it would catch fire.

I heard restricted dynamics with my amp plugged into the Tacima, which was a pity, because i really wanted a cheap solution.

If it's Mains Cable Extensions you are talking about, the following factors "may" effect performance:

- Whether it's star wired / star earthed or Daisy Chained.

- EMI / RFI rejection

- Quality of connectors / sockets

- How (if) surge protection is implemented

- How well (if) conditioning / active circuitry is designed

- Quality of conductor

On the other hand, it may all be snake oil to fool the gullible.

I use the Tacima CS929 for my pre and CD player only, i find if i plug my power amp in it strangles the sound and dynamics, so so that goes straight into the wall socket.

How much difference it will make depends how dirty your mains are in the first place.

To those asking why it would make a difference it's not the cable it's the built in filter that counts.... :wall:

The only thing a passive power conditioner (Surge Protector) can do is remove spikes and pulses and thus help smooth the power supply that reaches the connected equipment; true power conditioning can only be done with an active system which will be more expensive.

Check the rating on the power strip and make sure you don’t exceed it. (Just because it has six 13amp sockets on it doesn’t mean you can use six full 13 amp devices simultaneously)
