The m2tech HiFace DAC wins 8 DAC test:

Is this DAC in the same league as the Arcam irDAC?

I missed where it said in the test that the m2tech had won.

"Der HIFACE DAC ist die ultimative Wahl für einen provokativen Blindtest und eignet sich für jeden, der wissen will, worauf es bei DA-Wandlern offensichtlich nicht ankommt.",

True the magazine :cheer:  have not a ranking list.

IMO differences between dacs are small and very personal due to preference of a certain presentation.

You need only compare between What hifi and a German magazine like Audio to see 2 different views.

I used to spend over 1000 on a dac. Is there a difference? Yes, but small.

In fact, I'm about to sell my Cyrus dac in favour of the convenience of the b&o playmaker- a dac and pre at 1/3 the price...

YMMV but I wouldn't worry about dacs; if you want to upgrade just pop round your local hifi shop and see for yourself.

Cheers!

i saw that sentence but I read it differently. I don't read it as meaning they thought the m2tech actually sounded better than the other DACs on test. I think what the writer means is that if you're choosing DACs for a test, the m2tech is bound to seem a provocative choice.

The translation says:

The HiFace DAC is the ultimate choice for a provocative blind test and is suitable for anyone who wants to know what it obviously does not arrive at DA converters

Doesn't seem to imply it's better than the others.

The idea of article is that although the other dacs might have separate power supplies etc, the HiFace is among the least expensive and smallest with a really good sound.

Yeah, I get that they're praising it and that it might defy preconceptions but I didn't read that as it being the 'winner' of the test.

Agree, but it is to late to changed the thread namn. Lets just lock it and throw it overboard.
