Imho,and limited experiance i would suggest to get the best avr that you can afford,you realy need your speakers to be driven well to get the best from them and yes the Onkyo do offer great surround options. 🙂

I have just found that Onkyo 717 can be had for £499 now that does sound a pretty good deal, I understand that this model did not get alot of press/reviews so to speak, but does seem to be a good step up from the 616 and it seems not a million miles away from the 818 which has had very good reviews, any thoughts any one GSB-What do think. I will try to find out if I can get to dem this model at a dealer/home. 8)

Check digital coax & optical out if u need it on the717.

I have no idea to be honest mate,but as long as the avr has the right amount of imputs,correct processing etc and you like the sound characteristics then the only question is the size...ie:110w or bigger.An audition between different models should clear this up,then if you could home demo.... 🙂

I will hold my hands up tho as all of my stuff was matched on recomendation...i thought it better as i havn't the time to audition,and me being me my bias would be to the more expensive item :roll:

Sorry. I read online that the 717 has no coax or optical out. U may not ofcourse use these. I only use it for SkyHD.
