I followed the previous thread about Lord of the Rings bluray trilogy and decided to buy it today £29.95 at Tescos.

My confusion is :

the labelling on the box and jackets states a mixture of DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1 AND DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1ES.

Furthermore when selecting 'Audio Options' on the disc the only option is DTA-HD Master Audio 6.1.

My pioneer 320 hooked up to an Onkyo 606 only returns a 5.1 mix ; no 6th channel virtual or discrete! (Bitstream via HDMI)

Can anyone else confirm this please?

NOTE: the extras are on a DVD disc, not a bluray.

Hi

6.1 DTS HD Master Audio on the bluray and 6.1 ES on the dvd (highest bit rate sound available on dvd). I can confirm that i get the full 6.1 DTS HD Master Audio track from the blu-ray so i presume the problem is within your kit??

Thanks for the reply.

The jacket states 'main feature' as DTS_HD MA 6.1 ES.

My neighbour has kindly tried it and we get the both players (pioneer and oppo) to show DTS HD MA 5.1 as being read; but his amp (Denon) 'sees' a 6th channel - presumably the matrixed (virtual) one - my Onkyo does not.

I'm not convinced it is a discrete 6th channel.

I have the same problem running a Panasonic DMP-BD35 through a Yamaha DSP-AX763.

The Amp flags it as a 6.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio track and details show a 3/3/.1 signal but nothing comes out of the rear speaker channels!

I have read several AV-Forum threads re the ES being a matrixed 6.1 from 5.1 original which may be where the issue lies.

I have also spent some time today with Yamaha Tech support who are going to query the Nippon Tech guys but early thoughts are that the older DTS-HD Master Audio handling A/V kit just doesnt support it

I have payed 7.1 titles with no issues so I'm hoping that if in the future 6.1 discrete titles are released they too will work OK.

In the mean time I will let you know if Yamaha come back with any practical solution other than buy a newer AMP!

I only bought this one 11 months ago.

This is very strange as i have had no issues apart from my amp applying some processing to convert the disc into a suedo 7.1 track, the only way i could get the 6.1 DTS HD Master Audio track was by changing my speaker settings to 3/3/.1 but after that no issues and my amp was displaying and playing the 6.1 DTS HD Master Audio track correctly.

I'm not so sure about those other forum threads though as my original LOTR dvd's are in 6.1 DTS ES so i can't see how there would be an issue there??? I'm by no means an expert though lol, just seems logical if both soundtracks are 6.1 that there would be less room for any issues to arise?
