Have a look through the best buys section but id consider spending £1000 on the speakers and then £450 on the amp and get Yamaha RX-V667 or the Onkyo 608. In last months magazine i think it was, they tested various speakers and amps and it was agreed that the speakers are the ones to spend the money on

B&W 685 speakers would be a great purchase but would dip into your money for the amp

if you have the cash then id arrange some time with an AV shop and get them to Demo some of their equipment. Richersounds are ok, but their choice of speakers is very limited in store so id try and find a specialist dealer

Think the 3500ES only got 4 stars in the magazine so id probably demo a few of them before you buy off another persons advice....especially sales men as they tend to push specific stock to anyone with little experience.

For your budget id get a cheaper amp for say £500 Denon 2300 can be had for about that now if you shop around but isnt HDMI 1.4 or 3D ready but brilliant amp.

Speakers make a system more than an amp though, so you want to spend alot more on them than the amp.

I'd honestly ring a local dealer and get them to test a few for you one day and then you can part with your cash. I'd go for the Denon 2300 over the Sony 3500ES though, the 2400ES is probably a better option and then B&W 685 Speakers

I'd even consider not purchasing a Subwoofer to begin with and purchase that at later date and get higher grade set of 5 speakers. I have Q Acoustics 2000C and it just isnt going to blow you away for the price

Yes you could spend more on the speakers but you want to make sure you get the best out of them.I would try and find some £1000 plus speakers that had been discounted and increase the budget on the amp. What kind of speakers are you looking at sub/sat, traditional speakers, floorstanders this will help us narrow down a good selection. With that size room i would be looking at a good set of floostanders and the MA bronze range BR5 should be got for around £750 this would give you a good budget for your amp.Try an audition if you can and some of last years £1000 plus models will be knocked down by 20 to 50 %.

A google price check and i think for £707 you can get the MA BR2 5.1av speaker package and a Yamaha amp works well with this so the Yamaha rx-v2065 for £520 would be a good deal, but you can always check out the newer models if you want 3d try the Yamaha rx-v767. Also you may be able to get a deal when buying the two products together ie some free speaker cable, and the possibility of upgrading the front speakers.

You can get the Monitor audio BR2 AV for £599 at the moment here. The BR5 AV is £725 at the same place. Great value while you can get it.

If you can stretch your budget a little bit go for a Pioneer SCLX72 which you can get for about £899. Failing that you have a choice of.....

Pioneer VSXLX52 (£599) , VSX 1020 (£698) or VSX 920 (£494).

Yamaha RXV 767 (£600) or RXV 667 (£450).

Onkyo TXSR 608 (£450).

Denon 2310 (£450)

I would go with a Pioneer but a lot of people would recommend a Yamaha to match with monitor audio and i'm sure others will have a preference for onkyo or Denon so really you will need to make your own mind up which one you want to go with the BR5's. I think any one of the above amps would do a good job.
