I just bought a really nice Sony Bravia TV and I'm currently using some Creative 2.1 PC speakers with it, which aren't doing my Bluray films justice. The problem I'm having is finding a budget system without a DVD player, something like this would be perfect, but it's a DVD player/reiecver which is no good as I have PS3 which I watch all my DVDs and Blurays through: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-HT-C450N-5-1-Theatre-System/dp/B003DNSBJI

I'd like something like the above but with a normal reciever instead of a DVD player, the problem is finding one, and if I do the cost is 3x for some reason. My budget is only £100 - 150 and I want 5.1 DTS.

Thanks for any help.

I think you may struggle if you want to buy new. I think for that budget you will need to look on ebay for an older AV amp. There are quite a few on there normally, as people are upgrading for more HDMI connections/HD sound.

£200 will get you this http://www.hyperfi.co.uk/onkyo-htx22hd-home-theatre-package-system-bstock-htx22hd-p-695.html

which is 'B' grade' and only 2.1, but its upgradeable for about £90 to 5.1 if you wanted to save. Has a built in amp.#

Or just saw this in the description of this product: http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/7050
It says "Optical digital audio in (via toslink - ideal for listening to TV audio through the sound system)" Not sure, but could you connect your PS3 to this via optical, also if you could, not sure if it would give you 5.1 DTS etc..

Not sure whats going on with the text size btw. Just went screwy whist editing.

With that budget your only realistic option is to find a second hand Logitech Z5500 setup. This has an optical input for your ps3 plus an additional digital co-ax and switchable 5.1/2 channel analogue inputs for your tv/computer.

I've been using a Z5500 setup for a few years now and whilst it will stomp all over your creatives tbh if you want something that will really do justice to your films then I urge you to save up a few hundred pounds (£500 being the magic number).

With a bigger budget you will be able to raid ebay and get yourself some proper AV equipment which will give you much more pleasure in the long run and offer you an upgrade path in the future. With the logitech's if you eventually decided to upgrade you would essentially have to rebuild from scratch.

I've slowly been replacing the satellites with B&W speakers and already i'm noticing a MASSIVE improvement in the sound quality. The next thing on my shopping list is a new AV receiver and then i'll be logitech free and basking in the glory of a true AV setup :D
