It's no great secret.

It is a compact 5 inch active speaker with onboard dac and pre-amp. Minimal facilities but although it requires a wired input via toslink, the master can send signal to the other spreaker of the pair wirelessly.

Ah! That description sounds like the speaker that was announced a while back and then promptly all mention of it disappeared from view. Maybe somebody made a Boo Boo and released some info too soon?

There is a XEO 2 due to be announced (next week?). I don't know if this is what they're now calling that "secret" speaker, or if it's a different speaker and just a smaller model in the XEO range?

The speaker we saw was pre-production and rather functional.

Be interesting to see the finished product and final price.

I'll take a look tomorrow.

That's the clip I saw the other day. Thanks for the reminder.

The other active speaker that Dynaudio have just introduced is the Exite X14A, an Bi-amped active version of the Excite X14. That must have been the one I remembered hearing about (see my post above).

Unlike speakers in the XEO and Focus XD ranges, the X14A doesn't have wireless capability, digital inputs or in-built DAC's. Each X14A speaker is fitted with both an XLR and Phono line input, active crossover with DSP and two 50W amps per speaker (One for the tweeter and one for the bass/mid driver) and selectable switches to tailor the speaker to its placement in the room.

The X14A is one of 3 new speakers that have just been added to the Excite range. The others are the standmount X18 and floorstanding X44.

The bad news I've read is that the Focus range is being dropped completely, although the Focus XD range continues the use of the Focus name. The Excite X18 and X44 are supposed to have bass & mid drivers based on those in the outgoing Focus range.

As I'm sounding like Dynaudio PR, I think I'll stop there.

... The ADM10 appears to be great value, bearing in mind that there's also the benefit of buying direct and missing out on a huge dealer mark-up, but are you comparing apples with apples in terms of sound quality?

Unfortunately, I haven't had the benefit of hearing the ADM's to judge for myself. I'm also unsure of the quality of Dac onboard, rather hoping it's not a cheap off the shelf £0.50 chip, as suggested elsewhere?z

I just saw this posted by Ash on the AVI forum and remembered your post so I've copied it here:

"There's a Crystal receiver chip, SRC to 24/96 and remove jitter and then a WM8741 DAC. Input switching is by the receiver chip and analogue signals route straight to preamp.

We've had four preamp/DACs and this works best.

The volume control isn't digital either. It's a very high performance analogue stepped attenuators with a massive dynamic range and it doubles up as a preamp."

I don't know much about the technical side of this DAC but as far as I'm concerned from a user point of view it sounds totally transparent and is impossible to distinguish from my O2 DAC in a blind A/B comparison between the two.
