Linn finally blew up - do I make do with an AV amp for all?

My faithful Linn LK85 finally gave up the ghost. I don’t listen so much to the old Hi-Fi setup and don't currently have Home Cinema.
I was contemplating a modest £500 AV amp and keeping my Spendor S5 speakers. These days I’m less of a purist but would still like to listen to my old LPs and CDs on occasion.
Is it sensible to keep the old S5s and how would I then extend to surround sound?
Or should I go for an all new Home Cinema setup?
(I’m assuming that the gap between my aged HI-Fi and AV sound is much less these days)

Cheers

IMO This is a dangerous assumption.

I have Linn Kairn/LK100, and it's much better than all but the most expensive AV amps for music. My advice is get a cheap AV amp with pre-outs as well as an LK100 (or similar) on ebay, and then connect your old system into the HT system for your music.

I think you will miss the quality of your 2 channel more than you realize

thanks for the thoughts both (and sorry for the delay)

i'm exploring the idea or repairing the Linn

It was actually the Kolektor so the pre-out option would be an idea too.

Good idea, just make sure it's not cheaper to get something from ebay......if you haven't done so, check what stuff is going for.
