le40a686 or le40a856 is 856 worth extra cash

looking to buy 40" lcd before xmas, i was going to buy sony w4500 but reports of problems put me off. I was thinking about the le40a786 but read on forums people were having problems when using it with 360 or ps3 has anybody had problems with a786 when gaming. I am now considering the le40a686 or le40a856 but wondered if the a856 is worth the extra £300 is it that much better. can we have a response from what hifi about the problems with the w4500 and can we have a 40" group test please.

Where did you find a £300 difference?? most stores are only different by about £100, but to be quite honest the main difference apart from design is the 856 has a 70,000:1 constrast ratio whereas the 656 has 50,000:1 but contrast ratio is more of a numbers game now days but none the less i would say the 856 gives slightly better picture quality.

Best thing to do would be to find a shop that has both on display and decide which is better on its picture quality (be sure to view them both on their freeview channels, not the HD material that is often fed through them) If you still can't decide then whichever one looks the nicest.
