Hi,

To do comparisons between TV's, all has to be equal. Did you adjust settings and turn all 'enhancements' off?

I bought a plasma because I thought the picture was more realistic and natural than that of LCD's of the time. I also thought the LCD picture looked processed and artificial.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

There are good and bad examples of both LCD and Plasma but personally I am yet to see a LCD that I would choose over a good Plasma as I personally find the picture on LCD's always looks "computerised" and not natural when compared to a Plasma.

smuggs:agree now,it is unreal how bad football it is on a lcd the grass looks miles off being realistic

Ive never looked at one so cant comment. But if your talking purely about colour then it probably needs a proper ISF calibration

I assume you mean grain and not gain (you use both spellings), as they are two different things (and both appropriate to televisions)!

I can notice no grain whatsoever on my set, even inches from the screen.

That definitely sounds like the default settings, where features like noise reduction, sharpness, colour and brightness are set far too high.

Sharpness and noise reduction in particular would make the picture look 'lively', like you describe.

If you look at a Blu-ray like Wall-E and you can see grain, then the set is definitely not calibrated properly.

Have you tried using the THX Optimiser, or a similar set-up program/disc?

The THX Optimizer is on a number of DVDs and Blu-rays (it doesn't matter which version you use), eg the Star Wars films, and some Pixar discs - not sure which ones. I used it on the Attack of the Clones DVD. It's usually found on one of the menu screens (and can be easy to miss, as it looks like a logo!).

The official website gives further advice, but basically you just follow the onscreen instructions.

There is also the Digital Video Essentials setup Blu-ray (you can rent it from Lovefilm), which is a bit more complicated/long-winded.

And if you haven't already, you should check out WHFSV's television setup video.

Hope this helps.

When you said this I thought you ment you HAD calibrated. Switch off ALL the extra processing cr*p and use a THX disc to set Brightness and Contrast. Set colour by whatever looks most natural
