It seems WHF found it a bit underwhelming, but I reckon for 25 quid they could make it sound much better.

although the review mentioned the stylus as being fixed, they can be removed and changed.

For the sake of 25 quid, get an ATN95EX stylus, and fit it to the body. There are a few vids on YouTube on how to do this. Just a bit of minor surgery on the body

Give this a try, and re-review it. This could help a lot of owners give their cart a bit of a boost.

But who is going to want to alter a stylus body? Just have it supplied with a different cart.

The Concept MM is one of the best turntables at £1k in my opinion. The sound it produces sounds more like it is using an MC cartridge. If it doesn't impress someone, I doubt much else will at £1k.

It is indeed interesting to see the number of people who think they have to buy these turntables as packages. I am sure many a decent dealer would have no problems with swapping the cartridge for something different if the purchaser couldn't quite get on with the sound of the package as it stood.

Surely the idea is to sell a turntable rather than lose a sale for the sake of a cartridge.

I'm talking about the MM cartridge. Not the TT package. Maybe I did not make this clear in my post

Aha, I see. Assumed you meant the turntable package.

In that case I am not sure of the logic of buying an adequate cartridge and then potentially destroying it by mating it with an unmatched stylus.

Surely if the cartridge itself needs improvement you simply go for one further up the chain that normally has an improved stylus shape, or possibly just buy the Audio Technical cartridge outright.

Or am I getting you all wrong again?

Tested with a Concept TT? The one thats been part of the WHF awards for at least the last three years? With that MM cart on it?

strange that innit?

Just goes to show that while, as a well sorted package, it impresses some people there are always others that don't get the sound produced at all. This is why I have never bought a turntable as a package with pre-fitted cartridges, and never plan to either. Packages appear to sell well though to the vinyl uninitiated.
