June 5.2 Group Test - Review team help ?

Hi,

Just read the 5.1 Speaker group test and would like to ask the Review team what speaker cable (make/size) they would recommend for the Jamo 405s or the Q-AV solutions. I was already trying to get info for the Jamos and it seems they are quite small spring clips - and very awkward to connect to in the base (loop back on themselves).

Is the Q-AV the same ? What cable should I go for ?? (I have to lay some cable very soon before redecoration work next week). I had wanted to lay some quality cable but am conerned I will lay something too thick to be useful for either of these systems.Can anyone on the review team help ?

(Andrew, you helped on a previous post - thanks - but the connector idea sounded as if it would not fly after speaking to the Jamo distributor in the UK, they said the physical terminator would not work in the Jamo base due to the flexing needed to loop back on itself)

The Jamos need narrow speaker cable - a combination of rather miserly spring clips and some very narrow apertures in the cable management demand it. The Q-AV system isn't quite so fiddly, but it's not going to allow you to use anything particularly chunky either.

We managed to run both of them with QED's venerable Silver Anniversary speaker cable, but I won't pretend it wasn't a struggle. Try Ecosse Reference CS-2.3 (around £3.25/m) - it's usefully compact and sounds fine.

Or better yet, put off the decorating and wait for our July issue (on sale at the end of this month, weirdly enough) which has a big old speaker cable feature.

Thanks Simon, thats just the help I needed (and thanks for avoiding mentioning the typo, it should read 5.1 of course).

I would love to wait except the redecorating has taken so long, I risk too much wrath to delay for the sake of 'gadgets'. Ecosse it is. The foundations will go down....

Now, back to the 'which speaker package' question..............

Nope, not yet, I dont live near any major town to get to (easily). I did ask the Jamos distributor where I could find them and they said they had not shipped many at all (yet). I was looking at the 407s as opposed to the 405s.

I may have to go with a choice based on your reviews. I know that is bad form in terms of listening to/seeing my movies in my own room - or at least with my own ears, but I do have faith in your team.... !!! (i.e. this is for movies more than music)
