ECM is great record company and the sound recordings are generally top notch.

A couple I have are Collin Walcott - Cloud Dance and Tord Gustavsen Trio - Being There.

"The single most legendary Vanguard recording session took place on the afternoon and evening of June 25, 1961. It resulted in two Riverside albums by the Bill Evans Trio, Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby, that have been obsessively reissued, repackaged, cherished, wept over and written about ever since."

I love that one.

This is a classic Riverside set that has been reissued on CD in the Original Jazz Classics series. Pianist Bobby Timmons by early 1960 had already had successful stints with Art Blakey (where he contributed "Moanin'") and Canonball Adderley (writing "This Here" and "Date Dere"). For his first recording as a leader, Timmons (whose "funky" style was beginning to become very influential) performs those three hits along with his own "Joy Ride" and five standards in a trio with bassist Sam Jones and drummer Jimmy Cobb. Always more than just a soul-jazz pianist, Timmons (who effectively takes "Lush Life" unaccompanied) became a bit stereotyped later in his career but at this early stage was at the peak of his creativity. Essential music.

I'm liking this, both the contemporary european jazz style and the amazing acoustics of the hall. Well miked and mixed. Just superb.

Cheers Vladimir. *drinks*

I have been to the Union Chapel many times and I can confirm it is a superb venue with very good acoustics and is still a working church with a capacity of 800 people.

I am glad you liked Bill Laurance, he is rather good isn't he. *good*

That was beyond just good for me. And how the acoustics made instruments jump out... now thats dynamics. I played it twice last night.

One of my favourite sax players: Ben Webster- Gentle Ben

One of his later albums recorded in Spain. If you like that you could try "Soulville" and "Ben and Sweets".

ECM catalogue is quite interesting, sound quality generally is excellent. Artists are a bit obsure but there are a few big names such as Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea and Jan Garbarek. Certainly worth trying, I like some of Tord Gustavssen, Collin Walcott, Charlie Haden and Anouar Brahem albums. A few others to try Tomasz Stańkand John Surman.o Quite a surprise they are on all the streaming services now. Try ECM Essentials.

I'm surprised, I thought you would get off on the dynamics and that funky Victor Wooten bass line. *yes3*

It's uptempo, but somehow light, not taking itself seriously.

The band was founded in 1992 in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany by Thorsten Benning, Morten Gass, Robin Rodenberg and Reiner Henseleit. Originally, group members started out playing in various hardcore bands such as 7 Inch Boots and Chronical Diarrhoea. In 1992 they produced a crossover of jazz and ambient, which they self-described as an "unholy ambient mixture of slow jazz ballads, Black Sabbath doom and down-tuned Autopsy sounds".
