Is there any difference between an analogue interconnect and a subwoofer cable?

The reason I ask is because I'm looking for a set of analogue interconnects to go between my pre-amp and power-amp. The manufacturers I have checked only seem to sell them in pairs so I'm either go to end up with one I don't need or one too few.

I'm currently running a 5.1 system with plans to move to 7.1 in the next few months. I was hoping that analogue interconnects were available as individual cables and I would just buy 7 of them.
