Is there a better BD player than Sony BDP-350 for playing DVDs?

Hi,

I have a Sony BDP-350 blu-ray player, and I am delighted with its performance on blu-ray material.

But sometimes when it is playing DVDs (upscaling to 1080) it creates motion "ghosts". I am wondering if there are any other players out there that do a noticeably better job?

Could be the quality of some Dvds thats causing the problem. When upscaling the unit can only work with the amount of information it has available on the disc so it mathamatically "guesses" what to fill in with.

The old saying of "rubbish in,rubbish out" still applies in some cases.

My TV is a Sony 40Z something. Thanks for the suggestion. I will give it a try. (But actually this was not an answer to my question).

the sony 40z model is an excellent tv easily a match for the pioneer, similar price both 5 stars etc.

depends what you want to spend but the sony es model is a better br player but its expensive.

the sony 760 br player has also good reviews and is definetly better than th e350.

i also found that the 360 model was slightly better than the 350 ( i upgraded my 350 to 360 ) however i only really noticed it on blu ray discs and i did upgrade to a qed hdmi silver reference cable from a qed hdmi-p so that could have helped.

doesnt really answer your question over sd content . the only problem is once you get used to blu ray at 1080p going back to dvd is always noticably even when its upscaled, but a couple of players to look at.

also look at what hifi reviews of blu ray players like pioneer etc that may help

The point I was trying to make in my previous post is that your dvds may be the problem rather than the player as you do say it only happens on some of them.

It happens with me on "Road to Perdition" on a couple of the dark scenes and also with some of the early BBC stuff on dvd. Yet other dvds with dark scenes in them do not have a problem.

the z series sonys may well be very good , but nothing upscales like a kuro , or easily matches it , in fact going by online reviews , the panny v10 is the closest in terms of picture quality to a kuro , although not close at upscaling ..
