Hi
Please can someone verify if it is true that if you have 1.3 hdmi cable (i have a chord one - i think it was 2 or 3 yrs old) that i use for 3d plasma and a dedicated 3d blu ray player it will only display the 3d in 1080i not the full 1080p ?

I have sky hd box and have access to Sky 3d but using my panasonic plasma 3d tv i am having to alter the image to side by side by selecting the option manually on the tv remote. I heard there was an update from Sky that if you use a true 1.4 hdmi cable it ensure the tv auto detects this and changes this automatically. Is it true and does auto changing work for everyone ?

Any help and advice given is fully appreciated.

If you are after 3D, the Chord Silver Plus 1.3 (assumung you are usng this) should be fine.

No need a 1.4 spec HDMI cable for 3D.

Any 1.3 spec HDMI cable that are high speed certified will transmit 3D and 4K.

If your is the Active instead, it is confirmed that it is 3D and 4k ready as it is high speed certified.

Interesting. If 1.3 cables are ok, then what about receivers?

Would receivers with 1.3 specs pass through the 3D signals?

Well, that is the confusion.

For hardware, it must be 1.4 spec then can do 3D and 4K.

Since the previous hardware with 1.3 spec are not built with 3D function anyway.

Exception is the PS3. (Please google why).

For cables, 1.3 spec with high speed certification will do nicely.

Of course, 1.4 spec with high speed specs also can.

From what I understand the PS3's 3D is 1080i, not 1080p. p transmissions require more bandwidth from the cable and the hardware.

Sky support both active/passive 3d signal's so you do have to change the 3d setting on your tv.side by side is active shutter systems,up and under for passive.I have to change to side by side,im using a sony kdl40hx803.and the 3d is very impressive.

It is components ports that are hdmi 1.3 or 1.4

HDMI cables are just speed rated (Standard or High Speed) and include Ethernet or not.

PS3 3d is frame packed and 720p60 or 1080p24.
