Is Freesat really free? What are the advantages over freeview?

Sorry for asking such an idiotic question, but I'm looking to receive Sky sports stuff but I am so reluctant to subscribe.

We have freeview on our CRT so can Freesat give me what I'm after, or will I ahve to go down the 'S' route?

Freesat like it's name is free you will have to pay a one off fee for box & satelite dish.

but

Their is no subscription or monthly bills.

Advantages are you get over 100 channels & you also get bbc & itv HD channels. (maybe more next year-hopefully).

if your into your hd sport its great , champions league , world cup , fa cup , olympics , golf , wimbledon , not bad ....

You can get ONE ESPN channel on Freeview I think, whereas you get three on Sky, although if you don't want to watch baseball and old football matches this is fine.

More accurately,ESPN is available on 'Top Up TV' and IIRC you now need a TUTV specific STB as they no longer supply cam/card pack's for 'Freeview' boxes or IDTV's!
