this has been slightly bothering me a while now.........

i bought my 720p panny plasma 18 months ago ...... i did have a hddvd player when i bought the tv ( hadnt got into blu ray then ) .. i weighed up the pros and the cons at that time .... woudl be using said tv for pc use as well ......

but less than a year later i found myseld going down the blu ray route ..... know while i'm still happy with my tv , i still have this nagging dought ....... have a made a massive mistake ( from 18 months ago ) ?

idoes a blu ray disc give a better image on my 720p tv that much compared to a good dvd disc ? i know when i go up to 1080 i wil see it eventually ....but at this moment is the quality there ?

Oh yes indeed, depending on the source material of course.
Just because it's on BluRay doesn't always mean it's excellent quality in the same way a CD doesn't always sound fantastic.
For example the first 007 film from the sixties "Dr.No" will knock spots of most of the current day releases.
Avatar too is pretty awesome in full HD.
I use a Sony 52" but for film nights I fire up the Mitsubishi HC3800 which is a full HD beastie and you can really see the difference of 1020p up on the big screen.

Regardless of the resolution it's viewed at, its still less compressed than DVD, and is virtually free of edge enhancement. Also, black levels are better, dialogue is clearer, and bass is far more even.

i have a 5090 kuro(full hd) and an older pioneer(hd ready) and i was really impressed with blueray on the older set, looks stunning. The picture is better on the kuro but its not a night and day differance.

i say go for it you wont be dissapointed
