OK more of an observation than anything else, but why are most cables for connecting ipod to amplifier 3.5mm to Phono connections?

Even cables costing £40.00 like the iChord utilise the 3.5mm jack rather than the connection at the bottom for charging or synching the ipod. This seems silly as the output is via the headphone connection and is therefore limited sound output...i.e. i need to have the ipod volumd turned all the way up and then my amp volume turned virtually to 12 oclock to get anywhere near decent volume output.

The only cable I have seen that bypasses the volume control is the Russ Andrews one and it's only 20cm long though.

Surely if I use a dock and then connect the interconnect into the back of the dock that is just another connection to the loop... i.e. iPod to dock, dock to interconnect and then interconnect to amp??

Just seems weird to me that's all :)

Russ Andrews also do 50cm and 1 metre lengths for £26 and £33 respectively. Just click on the drop down menu next to length.

Though intended for another purpose the Arcam rLead will do the trick too and the quality of the interconnect cable is good. See http://www.arcam.co.uk/rlead.cfm

Thanks for the input guys.........not looking to buy a cable yet just an observation that more manufacturers didnt use the connection on the bottom of the ipod to bypass the volume controls.

Realise it was just an observation but just thought other might find this usefull.

I've just got an I-Touch and was searching for docs, cables etc to connect to hifi or tv and have found this, which seems to do everything that one would ever need.

Welcome to any feedback if anyone has had use of one already.

DO your self a favour and buy an RDock by Arcam rig that up with a £10 pair of second hand QED Qunex and you are in heaven trust me ive just got one!!!

far better than using the headphone jack!!

They cost £130 ( you may get one onn ebay cheaper ) but they are amazing why have a second rate one just go out and buy the best which is the Arcam one of that there is little doubt , my ears tell me so anyways!!

Hi Wayne,

Yeah longer term that's what I am going to do......New amplifier, New 120GB ipod, new speakers, decent dock and connects ad bobs my uncle......well he isn't, not really....but you know what I mean ;-)

All my music is lossless so I am expecting a decent sound reproduction without the hassle of CD's hanging around ;-)

As soon as I am sorted I will let you know what my setup is and how it sounds :)
