here is always someone who thinks Apple have ill intentions.

Poor guys, they are already paying Microsoft $5 for every Android phone they make, soon to be paying Apple too? You gotta love the way Google have defered all responsibility for their IP abuse to their partners.

It's a shame. They actually make some of the most reliable kit in the market. For years they carved out a nice niche making devices to order (O2 XDA for example) and decided to go big on the back of Android. They saw that the G1 was a potential market changer and starteted branding their own devices, rather than leaving it to Google or the networks. The HTC Magic was the first one I had. After that, they started to develop their own brand identity.

It's a bit of a cross-roads for them now though. Device wise, there haven't been any great leaps for a while. Android continues to be updated via the firmware making device changes less important whilst there are only minor tweaks.

I did have a play with a 3D one the other day, which was interesting, if a little gimicky.

@Chebby, you sincerely triggered my curiosity: could you please let me know where I could find these really magnificent, passionate, witty, erudite and downright entertaining one man forum protest campaigns against Apple? Oh, for the record, I did not campaign against Apple, I just shared my opinion about the flawed review of the iPhone 4 by Whathifi magazine.

(And okay, in a way I did reflect a little bit upon the unconditional adoration expressed by Apple fanboys…)

However, I do kind of miss is a substantiated reaction of a Whathifi editor which either explains why awarding 5 stars is accurate anyway, or admits that in fact it should not have been awarded 5 stars after all…

Surely that's what the original review does.

Ha!

Thanks Chebby, these clips are hilarious indeed. (However, you don't actually expect the people on this forum to compete with 'The Onion', do you?)

The scope of the original review of the iPhone 4 was not limited to its audio capabilities, so the rating is apparently for the full package. The Whathifi reviewers did not experience any antenna problems themselves at that time. After that however, several tests of telecommunications specialists proved the defects related to the antenna. Whathifi could have decided upon these new insights to reconsider the rating of the iPhone 4, but did not. And I'm sorry to say that I still don't quite understand why. (Reconsidering a rating is business as usual for other equipment, isn't it? E.g. the Cambridge audio 650A went from 5 to 4 stars)

At home I've an iPod 4 and an iPad 2 and I think it's fair to say that the sound quality of those match the sound quality of the iPhone 4. I consider the sound quality of the iPod nice; it's detailed and balanced. However I also consider its sound rather boring. Even my 4 years old Nokia N-series phone produces a richter, more engaging sound with more authority. So I don't quite understand the lyrical appreciation for the iPhone 4 sound quality, but perhaps that's a matter of taste. (Then again, if it is, how can it be rated in the first place…)

Apart from this, there seems to be something funny with the navigation on the site. When I go to the Hifi amplifier section, "Creek" is not among the list of manufacturers. Though when I select the price range of the Creek Evolution 5350 (1000+), then magically "Creek" does appear at the list of manufacturers… Or am I missing something here?

Because that would be basing this magazines review on the findings of someones elses review

Known bug, i'm afraid - not all brands currently appearing in drop-down menus, but they are most definitely in the database, and can be found by search and brand directory (for which there is a 'Reviews By Brand' link on the left-hand nav bar).

Apologies for that - it's one of a number of issues being worked on at the moment.

The reviews WHF publish are based on their findings and opinions, no one else's. I recognise the opinion is of a group of reviewers as opposed to a lone opinion, but they are opinions none the less. I'd also note that every actual iPhone 4 owner I've met and many on these forums have commented they have never had these signal issues. This overwhelming evidence suggests it's not an issue for most people. You're welcome to disagree on the opinion of sound quality and there is a section within each review on the website (labelled "Your Opinion"). I notice a few people have already made points there for the iPhone 4.

That surely is the best place to put these comments so that potential buyers can see them and research more before they purchase as I assume that is your intention?
