The University of Toronto tests the Power One Plug and Play Modification

"For our tests, we purchased a Virtual Dynamics Power One aftermarket a/c power cord. Virtual Dynamics was unaware at the time that the cable would be used for testing purposes.

The Virtual Dynamics Power One power cable improved the fidelity of the resultant analogue audio signal compared to the original, exhibiting a 2.6 % increase in signal slew rate compared to a generic power cable, as well as reducing low-level noise by 1.55 dB, and average noise levels by 0.35 dB.

The results show positive signs in improving the fidelity of the signal by using the Virtual Dynamics Power One power cable."

See, that's all we've ever asked for, an academic test. Is this subject to the normal scientific requirements (peer review blah blah)?
Its a real shame that for a so-called scientific study, they didn't use a control.

All that proves is its possible that using a 12 AWG cable over a 14 AWG power cable is potentially worthwhile.
The standard leads on my CD, and amplifier are both thcker than normal power cables, Seems to make sense.
So what you're saying is (marketing hyperbole notwithstanding) different types of power cable can make a difference?

That lemmings footage was fake, you know.

So anyway, to summarise:

a) We now have measured scientific evidence (note that I do not use the word 'proof') that mains cable can affect the noise floor of hifi

b) Whether this evidence is matched by a perceived improvement in the performance of your hifi is something you alone can judge.

c) If that perceived improvement exists, whether the value of that perceived improvement is worth the cost of same, is a matter for you and your conscience (and bank manager).

d) Any statements in manufacturer's literature should be read with reference to the above.

Whether I can hear a difference or not in mains cables, I myself am happy (in the same way that I'd rather buy a TV from John Lewis for the 5 year guarantee), that whatever compromises I'm making in my hifi set up, mains supply is not one of them. Which is worth 70 quid of my money.

Now, to more important matters - is there an 'eee' in Onkyo?

Mrs E informs me it should be pronounced 'Onk-yo', with no 'eee' in the middle, but then she gets angry whenever John Barrowman screams 'Tosheeeko' in Torchwood, when Toshiko should of course be pronounced 'Tosh-ko'.

Mrs E, by the way, is Yasuko, pronounced 'Yas-ko'

And Mrs D is Jane, pronounced Jane-eeee. Which confuses the hell out of our son, Jame-eee

Anyway, moving on. Flake vs Pocky Celebrity Chocolate Death Match.................

"A million housewives every day/Pick up a can of beans and say/'Beans Means Heinz'"

Now that number of female homemakers may well pick up a can of beans every day, and I'm sure the advertiser will be able to show sales figures demonstrating that this is indeed the case, but we will seek to challenge the veracity of the claim that each and every one delivers the same utterance when doing so.

Can't really see any direct claims for anything in that sentence... You must do better :) *edit by the way are you Andrew (remarkable similarity in avatar) (no not him)
Only the crumbliest, flakiest testing gets on snake oil vendors websites.

I don't know of anyone selling the product referred to in the post above. Which must be unfortunate for those with particularly squeaky snakes.

OK, my entire belief system has been thrown into disarray now. Am I Andrew? Is Andrew me?

Oh for the love of god...........can you not do better than that? It doesn't even scan.

Now, if you add the phrase "at all" to the end of the sentence, then you have satire............

It's a statement of 'fact' and thus could be challenged.

And careful with the (deleted) scatalogical stuff please - you're not with the Navaho now.

Can anybody point me in the direction of the scientific evidence to support this claim:

"the bi-plane layout maximizes inductor separation and minimizes electromagnetic interference between the meticulously selected crossover components."

(from the brochure for dali ikons)?
