In theory could PS3 support 3D glasses on any 3D compatible monitor

Opportunity this..

If Sony were to sell 3D glasses connected via USB ( or possibly wireless USB) to a PS3 console, synched with the ouptut of the software then surely we would all be able to use the Sony's 3D glasses kit with 'any' 3D compatible PC monitor, allowing those with a smaller secondary screen to enjoy 3D.

Guessing Sony don't as they want to sell their own screens, but....

Think of the potential mark up on the glasses ( bet its more than PS3 console) and the increase in 3D take-up, (just like Blu-Ray).

Seems such an easy opportunity, wonder if its possible..

or if Sony are actually considering such a move.

Ha,

Good answer..and unfortunatly true.

Don't mind if Sony considers the need for a smaller screen to suit gamers, and releases one.

Wipeout, GT5, Killzone 3, New Call of Duty all in 3D but i need a room big enough for a 40 inch set! Got a box room for gaming kit.

PC gamers and Nvidia manage it, seems like a lost opportunity to not support smaller sets. My theory was that glasses are existing technology and by linking in with the Nvidea standard, large margins would be made for little R&D and minimal outlay.

Plus incremental gains from a larger user base, games, blu-ray sales, extra glasses and a 'buy in' to 3D technology.

Never mind!

Each image has to change on screen in 1/120th of one second. To have glasses that are synched to the source would be making the assumption that the time taken for each image to go from CPU to the screen woudl be far less than that so that it all remains in sync.
