Or the subject line could be any other piece of equipment.....but absolutly no explanation again as to why this is the case just a list of power cords that we might like to buy and their possible merits.

Obviously the improvement is dependant on many elements of power supply (we don't all benefit from the perfectly clean supply that is in the What HiFi offices) a few things that spring to mind before you spend £150 and recieve absolutly no benefit.

1. The quality of mains power supply to your home, many of us do not get 100% especially if you are out in the country.

2. The quality of the ring main in your home, £150 per meter cable plugged into a £2,50 per meter ring main cable, you do the maths

3. The quality of the wall socket

4. The quality of the multisocket power block that you use; rarely does anyone have 6 or more mains wall sockets behind their AV system

I could go on and on and on, but you get the point

I think more the point being raised is that it's a front cover item " Improve your sky Hd for £40?"

Yet as mentioned in the opening thread its a rather tenuous link to the actual feature about leads that could be used with any kit (if you believe in the merits of them or not) and not a specific HD box upgrade/improvement.

I was irked by this myself when first opening the mag so can quite understand the post.

Dont understand why the tag line should be such a big issue.

If it said 'improve your TV' nobody would have thought anymore of it.

Fact is that there are many of us on here with far from the best mains. Personally the Tacama Mains Conditioner gave me greater results than any video cable change. I have been waiting for a fig 8 test for a while because as you say, BD player, Sky, PS3, etc all use one. Many on here have used Power Leads with a Fig 8 converter to improve Sky HD pic and sound.

Seriously if you haven't tried a power cable or conditioner before then it is nothing more than opinion. Just borrow one from someone and try for yourself, bet you'll be singing its praises!

Agree £150 is a bit much for Sky but if you want perfection.

Cookie Monster:if you haven't tried a power cable or conditioner before then it is nothing more than opinion.

The same applies if you have.

It's Christmas and they've got to shift the copies, a bit of journalistic sensationalism never hurt anyone, but agree with the above post, it is rubbish without the context of you also need a mains conditioner to get the best results and also regulated power.

Yeh! fair point al7478.

It is opinion. But a tested one.

I have enjoyed a good picture and sound boost from mains conditioner with the next step being a Merlin cable for TV. Point is that we are all enjoying an AV/HiFi magazine and even if you don't crave that little bit of extra picture noise removal or sound seperation then why is that a problem. It would be like me adding bits to my car it would be completely wasted on me.

Truth is i love all the little upgrades, but put into perspective this article was just 1page out of 100+ not a great percenatge of the mags contents. Personally i want others to try these things because i got such a good result from other mains kit, i don't sell AV kit, just want people to see for themselves. In the end its just down to individuals needs and wants.
