hi

i have a toshiba hd ep35 connected to a pioneer vsx lx60 reciever. my problem is when i put a hd disk with true hd (300film) the reciever does not regognise the sound format. all the amp displays is pcm. i have selected dolby true hd from the disk menu and set the ep35 settings as follows.

digital out spdif - bitstream

digital out hdmi - auto

digital direct audio mode - on

dynamic range control - off

still the reciever shows "pcm"

when i put a standard dvd in with dolby 5.1 the reciever regognises this and displays it

the tosh is connected with a qed hdmi sr cable !

how do i know the amp is recieving the correct sound format to decode !

i have tried loads of hd dvd's all of which have the same problem. could it be something needs altering in the amp ? it's driving me mad please help anyone.

andy.

Hi Andy

Sorry, your original post must have got buried in the system somewhere! I'm not familiar with the Pioneer receiver, so I'll have to check with one of our technical team tomorrow and come back to you on this.

I just remain amazed that no-one seems able to spell Clare's name right.

Could it be that the disc is telling the player only to output LPCM, not the native bitstream? It happens, and anyway, LPCM is anything but a poor substitute, and will give you exactly the same sound quality.

you're lucky you only have 1 Clare, where I work we have 3!
One's Clare
One's Clair
and one's Claire
They all moan if you get their names wrong, they all work in the same department, it's a nightmare having to apologise all day I can tell you

Was 'he' once a 'she'?

I guess he keeps getting mistaken for an actress.
