Killing time until tomorrow, when an avalanche of electronic newfangled gubbins descends into my abode, with a Chirstmas like excitement (I even have time to indulge in the spurious use of indulgent language). So I am not left in tears, crying at me inability to use all my kit, I want to make sure I have everything i need for now... Onkyo 606 to................. PS3 (hdmi?, got!) V+ (hdmi?, got) old dvd (scart?, got) speakers/sub (sorted the cables so ok here) All plugged in to a Tacima 6 block thingymajig Does everything go into the onk, then one hdmi out to the tv? If you have a £30 QED cable to the tv, does that mean you'd really need to have one for each source too? The ones I have came free with the V+ box (got 2). Do I need anything else? Optical cables? Will the hdmi's do the lot? I have a stand to build first, so it may be into Autumn before I get as far as wiring! Help! Steve

The old DVD's Scart output won't go straight into the Onkyo - you either need to connect this direct to the TV, or find another way of connecting the DVD to the Onkyo. If the player has component outputs, use these, or you could at a pinch use S-video, but in that case I'd stick to Scart straight to the TV.

You'll need a digital audio cable from the DVD player to the receiver, too, but whether this is electrical or optical will depend on the outputs available on the player. If you have a choice, use the electrical/coaxial one over the optical.
