(I think) the amp is switching itself off

I've had an issue happen 3 or for times in the last fortnight.

When watching West Wing on DVD, the screen goes blank for a split second and then resumes. It happens so fast, I'm not sure whether it's the amp or the dvd player (it could be the screen, but I don't think so).

Question is - what's doing it. The only thing I can figure is that the amp (Denon AVR-1909) might be over-heating - despite my best efforts, I was only allowed a cabinet which is open back/open front, 2 cm either side and 7cm above. I tend to watch West Wing when her indoors has retired for the evening, so the amp will have been on for 3-4 hours at that stage.

Has anyone else experienced this - is that how the amp normally behaves (quick flash off and then resumption of normal operations?)

Or is there something else I'm missing out? Any thoughts gratefully recieved.

Cheers

Garry

That was my first thought - but I replayed the scene with the glitch, and it didn't do it the second time (and it doesn't happen again - which suggests that it's not a heating issue).

It's not a huge issue, I just hope it's not indicative of a bigger problem brewing...

Over the last couple of weeks my receiver, Sony Str-db940 has been switching itself off. It was doing this during the height of the mini 'heatwave', now normal British weather has resumed all is well.

It's not unknown for a player to 'glitch' at a layer change once, then not do it when the same part of the disc is replayed.

If the amp has a problem I'd expect it to switch to standby and stay there for a while, not for this to happen momentarily.

It does sound like a digital lock/handshaking problem to me.
