igglebert:Some spike shoes for the feet (appropriate size), power amp underneath and preamp on top. Only problem would be the interconnect reach.

I'm sure Argos do a nice £1.99 2m interconnect...

No seriously, that's a good suggestion...

Hughes123:Joel - could you put the power-amp under the rack and then put the pre-amp at the top and then the DVD player where the current power amp is?

The gap at the bottom is only 100mm too, would just fit a second power amp. The problem with doing this is that the DVD player is 85cm tall and would then be in a slot of 100mm and I'd have an empty space so would just look silly.

Or you could stick some cup coasters under the feet of the rack to give more room at the bottom?

Oh yes the Crystalcable is only 0.5m too.

Hmmm. Hopefully I won;t win the bidding

It wouldn't gain the WAF I'm afraid

That's a VERY tall DVD player.....
no wonder it doesn't fit in the rack

chebby:So you are committed to Arcam forever? (At least Arcam only of certain dimensions.) How does this stack up (oops!) for future upgrade plans?

Nah, but I will sell the rack at the same time as I sell all my kit or move house. Plans are afoot for this at some point.

Could you rout 10mm from the front batons? It looks as though you have the shelf height but not the frontage.

chebby:JoelSim:

This gets stranger by the minute. The Arcam brochure has the P38 down as 100mm, and doesn't have the C31 in it at all.

http://www.arcam.co.uk/prod_fmj_C31_intro.cfm Dimensions are 430 x 370 x 110... http://www.arcam.co.uk/downloads/FMJ%20C31%20specifications.pdf

Yes I've seen this. But their range brochure says the P38 is 100mm, and their download as above says 110mm. The eBay seller's listing also says the C31 is 100mm tall, but above says 110mm.

What is right? I've asked the eBay lister to measure them for me, and I've sent an email to Arcam.

I don't endorse this but if you haven't managed to pull out of the deal through coming to an agreement with the seller, then you could simply not pay for it and after 3 days have elapsed the seller will offer it to someone else. Now what this will mean is a strike against you but you get 3 strikes anyway.

My personal opinion is to confirm what the seller says the height is. If they say it's 100mm, then go for it...if they say it is less, reject your bid and browse around for something else. For the bids you have put in, I'm sure it'll go up much futher than that, so you probably won't get it at that price anyway.

I would be sorely tempted to come to some kind of arrangement for my A32/P35, but having tried bi-amping I'm not going back and I can't afford another P38 any time soon.

Hughes123's suggestion of getting the seller to measure the height is great, because I'm sure they'll understand that you may have jumped the gun on bidding and that the size of the components may obviously be a major consideration. If that fails you could always go to a dealer and get them to measure for you - I wouldn't normally advocate wasting their time if you have no intention of buying, but then again you wouldn't exactly be putting them to the trouble of doing a demo for you, it would just be a few seconds.

I've been in my local dealer and looked at the A38 and P38 and they looked exactly the same size as mine. I think I would have noticed a 10% difference. Then again in their review HFC list the height of both as 11cm.

Maybe it's not such a good idea anyway. If you're having to shoe-horn a power amp into a slot then there's not going to be any room for ventilation. Just a thought.

It's made in the style of a Cyrus Triarbor so there is plenty of ventilation. Just got good news from the seller in that they are 100mm including feet. Now just have to work out the missus explanation...
