it's quite simple:

FIRST: you pick something she likes and costs money (holidays, shoes, vintage cheese), and then you explain that this is something you like. She might not be able to appreciate the difference in speakers, but then you can't apprecate the difference between some Zara high heels and some Louboutins, but that doesn't make the Zara heels the equal of the red-soles.

SECOND: Point out how rarely you treat yourself (it helps if it's true, too!)

THIRD: Budget to gather the cash without incurring hardship (I buy some a/v or hi-fi from my annual bonus).

FOURTH: Buy when there's a sale and/or haggle hard. My wife loves a bargain....

On special occasions buy her something really special, like a pearl necklace, diamonds or a fur coat.

Good idea, but when women ask for a fur coat, they don't mean a donkey jacket.

Speaking of diamonds, my wife had a spare diamond ring, so wanted to take the diamond out to make a pair of ear-rings. Needless to say, she put it in her own special way: ''Darling, I need another diamond, can you pop over to Dubai and fetch one?''. The following week I was in the Middle East. She just made it sound like I was popping down to Ernest Jones.

Did you learn your economics from The Right Honourable Gordon Brown MP?

That would mean he would sell the wife's gold at a knockdown price, use that as a deposit, take out a massive loan to pay for it all, promise to repay over the economic cycle and then run away without paying back anything so that the next fella picks up the bill.

Still not sure what is Right and Honourable about it???

There is nothing right and honourable about that at all JJ. Unfortunately this dangerous, inept clown is still entitled to the prefix, however undeserved it is. The prefix I would adorn him with is, 'the defendant'; just like Bliar[no typo].

Never let women walk all over you otherwise this happens - yesterday I spoke to a friend about a Wii U and he said to me with a straight face "my wife won't let me buy one"

They are our wives and girlfriends not mothers! Now go forth and buy it! ;)
