Morning all

I am looking to upgrade from a 50 inch samsung plamsa to a projector and am trying to decide what my best options are

My budget is approx 1200 pounds and for this sort of money I can either choose a new projector such as an Epson TW-3600, or alternatively a model from a couple of years ago such as the JVC DLA-HD1.

Hence my question in the topic title. Will the Epson now contain the features / quality of a more expensive projector from a few years ago.

These are obviously just 2 examples and the only feature that is important is a decent amount of vertical lens shift so that I can mount the projector quite close to a highish ceiling.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

Steve

Currently, I'd say things are moving slow, but over the past few years, things have moved on. One feature the 3600 has that could only be bought for £2k+ at the beginning of last year is lens shift. The Panasonic 4000 is still the next step up with this feature. One other benefit is that being an LCD projector, it's quieter than DLP projectors, and also dent suffer from rainbow effect. Fantastic little projector.
You can look at older projectors, but do check a projectors contrast ratio, which gives you a very good idea of a projector's black level.
