Ok, this is exceptionally embarassing. Got a new AV amp a while ago but just never really had time to set it up properly. It's been a long time since I last used my sweet Arcam Xeta 2 before replacing it with my current Yamaha monster. Problem is - I just can't seem to remember to how to bloody connect it up! Rotel pre/power 870s I am running. Two tape loops on pre amp, one bridged mono on power and well, it's a yamaha - you can only imagine the what's on offer at the back of that! Please help. Cheers Stevie

Do you mean to have the Rotel driving the stereo fronts and the AV amp doing the rest? With an integrated you'd send pre outs front left and front right to a spare line input on the amp, set the rotel volume at 12 o'clock and then run the yamaha speaker setup to balance the volume. Whether it's possible to send the preouts of the Yamaha to the rotel power amp directly (which strikes me as preferable), I don't know. Try the former first and see how you get on.

Yes, rotels driving fronts.
This is just plain awfull.
Remember using my tape output last time on the nad I had and it was fine. Don't see a pre out on the yamaha.
It's a DSP-AX620 if that helps?
cheers

OK. Provided you have a UK/Europe 620 (the model sold elsewhere didn't include preouts), on the back there is a cluster of six sockets marked 'Output' (picture on p18 of the manual). You want the top two, which are the front stereo pair.

1) Take a pair of interconnects from those two to a spare line-level output of the Rotel (we'll call it 'AV').

2) Set your Rotel volume to normal music listening levels by listening to a CD and note this volume level

3) Switch to AV and run the Yamaha's volume setup routine (p22 of the manual).

4) Then whenever you're watching a film, set the Rotel to the volume you set in 2)

5) Control film volume using the Yamaha.

That's it, pretty much.

hi,

first i'd like to say i'd be interested in how it sounds when you get it set up,

i tried a yamaha av reciever on my two rotel 870 bx power amps and it took all the weight and power out of it.

i've just picked up an arcam xeta one and am goin to try preing them with that it's seems to have more drive.

so what is your confusion with setting up,

what equipment do you intend to use with it. . . let me know and i can give you step by step setup instructions.

cheers....

By George, I think he's got it!

um...nearly a year ago ?! Does his new job involve time travel or has someone revived an old thread?

I think you'll find someone just came back to an old thread, rather than John resurrecting ones he'd posted a year ago. He's far too busy to do that now.
