My wife was surprised to say the least to come home one evening to find the living room blacked out and a new 10 foot screen on one wall with a 6 foot tall image of Princess Leia in her finest.

She got her own back though with Dirty Dancing the week after.

Close mates love it, though I think a lot of the ladies think I'm crazy on how much money I spend on it... they do like to watch films at mine though!

My Dad likes my speakers, but he has a better TV than me (50" Pioneer) so he's got me on that one! My Mum's happier now I've managed to fit a dining room table in the front room now so we can eat at a table when they come round - don't think she's too bothered about the home cinema!

Mind you, I haven't got the projector sorted yet - next on the list once I've upgraded my surround amp.

My dad couldn't believe the amount I was spending on building my home cinema. Once I had it all set up I invited him around to check it out. He just kept pointing at things and asking how much it cost and whether I really needed it. I told him to sit down in front of the tv while I closed the curtains, stuck Casino Royale Blu-Ray into the PS3 and turned the volume up on the PCM soundtrack. He went quiet for a couple of hours and hasn't complained about my spending since.

My parents couldn't see the point in the projector (until they came up visit and watched some stuff) and a few years later my dad wasn't convinced by surround sound at home (until they came up to visit and watched some stuff).

Well the wife said "What the +*&""!"
The Mother in Law said "you must be %&^@@***ing joking"
and the father in law said the speakers look like $%%*^@*ing coffins"

My parents rarely comment. My girlfriend's parents come to visit and watch loads of movies and, as soon as they get home, phone me to get recommendations for what to buy for themselves.

The system is hidden round a corner in the lounge so when friends come over they walk into the lounge, turn around and then it usually goes something like "Oh my God!"

Keeping up the good son image my family get all my replaced equipment so they gradually get used to the extra boxes...
