I have been looking at this stand recently and it measures in 40cm wide, my amp is 44cm wide, so what good is that then?

I thought this was suppose to be one the main av racks, i can't seem to find it in different widths, anyone know if it can be done wider?

Cheers

Think you're getting confused here, the Podium XL stand is 400mm deep, but 800mm, 995mm or 1200mm wide, http://www.hifiracks.co.uk/userimages/procart38.htm
But hifiracks also offer a bespoke service, so can build rackss to your design/size requirements.

Yep that is the stand at 400mm deep, do you know how much it will cost to go to around 500mm deep, this stand is already expensive, i have emailed some people just waiting for a response, you would think that it would be standard around 500mm deep, not so that you can't even get your amp on.

Cheers

just give Bradley a call at Hifi racks, he did a bespoke rack for me for Cyrus gear in solid oak and it was pretty reasonable - about £200 I think, and excellent value and quality. Bradley did a couple of different designs on paper first, which I tweaked and then he built it - great service.

I can't remember the depth of mine - I got it before they named it the Podium. However, my receiver and stereo amp fit nicely.

Thanks for all the responses guys, just spoken to a couple of people, my amp will go on but it will overlap abit, just a matter of getting the feet on, also spoke to the company and at 500mm deep it works in at £387 per tier full price, so not to bad either.

Cheers guys

As has been mentioned before by me and others, you can't really go wrong with Bradley's company. It's solid wood furniture, made to measure and he cares about what he does. Try and buy a solid wood sideboard with no self assembly for under £500-600. I got lucky in that I read Joel on here had just bought a rack from them (and I was hunting for one with the right dimensions at the time) and I got on the bandwagon before they won loads of stars!

Thread seems to have concluded but I asked a rep of HiFi Racks this exact question at the Manchester Show and, as you've discovered, they said not a problem to have larger (deeper) plinths. I was looking at a range of sizes when I was buying my HiFi Racks Podium and the increase in price all seemed proportionate and reasonable.

I would recommend you try getting a quote via a dealer also. While a dealer obviously takes a cut, I actually found that I ended up with a lower quote via Musicraft than when I went direct.

One last question, with my center speaker if i moved it from the center of the stand to the left or right to accomodate something else, i am going to throw the sound abit right? what is the advice here, not to do it, do it but it will affect the sound abit?

What do you think?

Cheers

The centre is meant to be in line with the TV so it seems as though the dialogue is coming from the same source as the picture (the same reason you don't want it too far above or below the TV). So if you can live with that fine. OR move yout TV to one side also. OR get a wide enough plinth that you can fit 3 sets of components on the bottom shelf (say 130cm). (Assuming that is the reason why you want the centre to one side.)

Yep, that was the reason, yep that all makes sense.

Cheers for that

You could always try making a rack. See my useful threads for my attempt.

Now I have proved the design (before the Podium) I'd use a solid wood kitchen worktop (40mm) as it'll look nicer than softwood and be much, much easier to fabricate.

I can sell you a nice oak table for £50.00. Will do the job nicely and save you a fortune.

You can donate the rest to charity and do a good deed.

They are excellent racks - solid oak wood furniture never looked better IMHO - they can also offer any of the racks in a custom size to suit your kit if the standard size isn't quite big enough
