It's time to get a new tv for my bedroom. I've not had one since analogue was switched off!Have been looking at the Sony KDL40EX403U but have read that it suffers from input lag when used for gaming. Something that I will probably be looking to use it for.Any recommendations for any tv set that overcomes this?Thanks.... This will be wall mounted so needs to be light if possible.

Look at plasmas if you're interested in gaming. Their refresh rate is still unrivalled by today's LCDs & LED lit LCDs.

thanks but i think they are a bit out of my price range! i woukd have prefered a plasma over an lcd due to the less inout lag times they offer especially in the 100hz range. iirc??

i think i may have to push my budget up a bit to get something a bit better in performance standards. i also need something fairly light as the wall that the tv is going on wont hold 40" plasma! unless its led which means its lighter?

really struggling here :(

Slightly off topic, but if you're worried about hanging a heavy tv on a dot and dab wall then use these http://www.drylinepro.com/

I used them to hang my Pioneer on the wall, which ways close to 40kg, and it's as solid as a rock.

The wall its going on is just an "old" plasterboard wall dividing two bedrooms. Plasterboard and the old wooden beams. not sure how old the house is... Really can't see how its going to take a 40" plasma. :( Any other ideas? :(

If you want lightness at that size then there is no other option than an LED LCD, have a look at the sony range, therees plenty of 40" examples that meet your requierments.

The wooden studding will hold a weighty tv no problem, as long as you use at least 4 good thick long screws and you hit the centre of the vertical timbers

Sorry I meant the response time. The Panasonic V20 has a response time of 0.001 msec, & the Samsung 6500 series has a 0.0001 msec response time. How much does your Sony do?

The Panasonic G20 has only 2ms of input lag, on a quick search. Where did you find the input lag times of the GT20 & the VT20? Maybe it's got to do with 3D. Any example of LCD bettering a non-3D plasma TV?

About the £400-£500 mark.

I'm also looking at 37"led lcd tv's as an option also.. 40 may be a bit too big! Or possibly a very good specced 32" model... Hmm

Nice looking tv's there tho... LG is a contender for sure :) Altho only being 720p, im not sure there'd be much loss unless i was to use it for gaming a lot. My current monitor is 1080.

LCDs are cheaper to run and don't suffer from image burn.

Also, get the largest screen you can afford, you won't regret it.

About 60ms (guessing)

But the response time has nothing to do with input lag

On a site that measures lag, as well as black levels, greyscales etc etc

i think i may go for the Sony KDL-32EX503. its currently 380 in currys and ive read good reviews.

seems to me to be a very good all rounder screen and not suffering from the input lag of the 40inch version (of which is 60ms iirc) its ideal for gaming also. latest magazine gives it 5 stars too.

any othre recommendations ?
