Hey there, I was wondering if one of you kind people would maybe be able to help with this please ?

I have a Panasonic TH-37PX70 tv and today I replaced my old Yamaha HTR-5540RDS amp (served me so well for many years sad to replace it in a way) with the Onkyo TX-SR308 ... Main reson was to get the HD sounds from new blu rays played freom my Sony BDP S370

I was hoping that all the instructions for setting up my new amp would be simple and straight forward as I take quite a few pain-killers for a bad spinal injury ... but have found this for myself anyway, not to be the case 🙁

I have the proper cables (HDMI's, coaxials and opticals and a pretty decent speaker system ... Tannoy Arena with stands

I just am not too sure how it all sets up tbh and was hoping for some help ?

I had it set up to what seemed right earlier on ( a few times) but I could never get to see on the amp that when playing the likes of Bourne blu ray movies ... DTS HD or with other movies... any of the DTS or quite a few of the other modes listed on page 36 of the Onkyo manual ?

Is it maybe how the menus should be set either on the Sony 370 or the amp itself do you think is wrongly set ?

I've looked for ages online but nothing stands out as to what I am setting up wrongly 🙁

Please help if you would.

Is there a button on the amp (or it's remote) marked STRAIGHT.
I have my amp on this ( a Yamaha), or else I don't get the HD THROUGH

I would say the problem lirs with the BD player. maybe it's not sending yhe audio to amp I. the correct format or, the amp is not recognising the HDMI set up from BD player??

Firstly ensure you are using HDMI as HD audio will not pass through coaxial or optical connection. Then go into the settings on the Sony BDPS370 and ensure the HDMI audio is set to "Auto" Then go to "BD Audio mix setting" and select Off. This should fix the problem.

Yeeha, all good now 😛arty:

Thanks for the pointers guys ...

It would be great if the booklets were written giving crystal clear instructions all the same ... I understand a little but it must be a nightmare for people totally new to setting-up. I complained so much yesterday (ranting and raving Angela said lol) that she left the house for a while to do some shopping, came back and never really spoke to me for a good while .... even this morning she kinda :| and sniped with ''well is it all okay now'' to which I was more than happy to reply ''yes dear, it is'' 😉 again, thanks for the help guys.
