I have been looking at getting a 19" - 22" LCD/DVD Combi for the bedroom and maybe another for my sons bedroom. The question is has anyone any experience with these and can point me in the right direction?

I have seen an ALBA 19" at argos £149.99, bought this on the spur of the moment (thought the wife would be pleased that I was being a little more spontanious than I usually am when it comes to technology) hooked it up and tested the DVD and I couldn't believe how appauling the picture was. Diagonal lines racing across the screen, picture ghosting and colours bleeding. Needless to say that went back the next day.

Since then I have been trawling the internet trying to find a better quality set. I have found the Toshiba 22AV615DB for £235.00 also the Toshiba 22DV615DB for £244.00.

Any comments on these or any other sets are appreciated. Thanks

Is there any particular reason why this has to be an LCD/DVD combi? I appreciate that you save a little space this way, but if you're looking for a decent level of performance then it might be more sensible to purchase a well reviewed standalone LCD TV and a separate DVD player. Given that you can pick up a reasonable DVD player for next to nothing these days, this probably wouldn't prove any more expensive, while offering you a much broader range of products to choose from...

I Thought about that option, and the only reason I went for the combi was for space saving reasons. I will look into the seperates though. Can you recommend any?

Thanks

I can't really claim to know a great deal about screens at this size, unfortunately, and WHF only review two 19" sets on this website -- a Toshiba and a Sharp, both of which received four star ratings. I was merely working on the basis that separate components, as a rule of thumb, offer a greater level of performance than all in one electronics (though I'm sure there are some exceptions to this rule). I'd check out the two sets reviewed by WHF as a starting point, and see how either fit your priorities. I assume you're really looking for solid SD performance if you want to hook up a DVD player rather rather than Blu Ray? It's debatable, anyway, whether there's much advantage to having a HD ready (or even full 1080p) tv at this screen size.
