I have been "dithering" for the last 6 months on what 46 inchtv to buy.  I was going for the Sony KDL 46W 4500 then the Sony KDL 46Z 4500 butI have been put off the Sony’s due to the clouding issues, now I am seriouslythinking that the Panasonic TX-P46G10 is the one, in May’s test the 42 inch got5 stars, should I take it the 46 inch should be the same and am I right to gofor the Panasonic?

It's a tough call really. The Panasonic G10 plasma is better than the Sony W series LCD. Sony TVs are generally very good and you won't be disappointed with either of these TVs. I would go for the Panasonic plasma personally.

I will follow this closely, I compared the panasonic 46PZ81 side by side with the sony 46w4500 on a number of feeds. Apart from the black being slightly better on the pana, I thought the picture was a lot better on the Sony.

I also saw the 46w4500 and 46z4500 side by side (but only with BR spiderman feed) and was not convinced I could see much difference.

I will have to hunt down a G10 and see if I can do the same test.

I own a Sony KDL40W4000, my father in law owns a Panasonic TH-42PZ80. Having watched both, I prefer the Panasonic. (although I do prefer the TV guide and remote control of the Sony)

My Sony has no clouding but it does have the viewing angle issue that LCD technology suffers from. Only really noticeable when viewing in subdued lighting confitions, and not sitting directly in front of the screen, the colours and blacks wash out a little at the side of the screen (so if you're sitting a few feet to the right of the screen it will effect the left hand side of the screen a little). As I understand it, all LCD's suffer from this to a greater or lesser extent (wave your head around in front of an LCD monitor to see a more extreme version of the effect), I don't see if mentioned in many reviews though...

Viewing angle is just not an issue at all on the Panasonic and the picture is excellent.

I have a Panasonic 42PZ80 too, and preferred it over the Sony's I was looking at, but just. It was very close. I can't comment on the P46G10, but I imagine it would be a little better than my TV.

I found the Sony a little Too sharp, unrealistically so. It's initially impressive with the right HD content, but I can also imagine it causing a headache after hours of watching.

Also, with the Plasma you'll get no motion artifacts or off-angle weirdness, and the blacks are a little better. It's very close on all counts though. Sony makes excellent LCD's

Thanks for your comments, so far it looks a good bet for the Panasonic.
