Hi all,

I am taking the plunge for my first surround sound system. With the advice i have recieved i have come up with the onkyo 309 reciever and the tannyo sfx 5.1 speakers with it.

The set is costing me around £300 and i have a budget of £400 so was wondering if i could upgrade anything to get better sound quality

Thank you

Seems like a 2 way choice to me, either the amp or the speakers & your extra budget that is left cant be that much bigger than your exsisting spend of £300 or so.

A/V Amp wise you could go for the SONY STRDH820 & the Tannoys you suggested should go well with this amp.

Speakers something like the Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS 5.1 SE may be an improvement.

My advice would be to demo anything you decide on if you intend buying new. A £400 budget for A/V amp & speakers leaves you with few options on upgrading from the items you have already listed unfortunately.

Regards...

I have heard the Tannoys with a Sony amp, and they work very well together. For your budget you will be well pleased with the combination. Onkyo amps have a reputation for running a bit hot.
