ok all im looking to buy a new amp for hifi and i would like it to do some home cinema stuff as well. I was looking at these ONKYO TXSR606 OR ARCAM DiVA AVR280 both are about £400 what to people think about these ? or does anyone have any other suggestions.

Both of those receivers are very good; make that excellent but are good for diffferent things. The Onk has a much more "up-front" sound which makes it more exciting but the timing isn't as good (that is the ability for the amp to stop and start with the music.) The Arcam isn't as exciting and isn't as powerful, but it is better at music.
My choice? The Onk, because I think it looks nicer and I prefer an exciting listen, but the Arcam is equally as good and is built much better.

Depends what you want it for predominantly. The road I went down was:
Bought Cyrus 8vs2 - quality music amp that you can pick up cheap if you shop around;
saved up;
Bought Cyrus AV Master
Result - the two combined are infinitely better than an Arcam AVR on all fronts
