Help required. I have just had a virgin h.d. box installed( samsung version) and am using an optical cable direct from the box into my a.v.receiver, but the v+ remote will not operate the volume or mute on the v+ box ( everything else works fine) as all it said when i tried the buttons was" To program the remote to work with your t.v. volume follow these on screen instructions blah, blah, blah". But as i am not using the t.v. for sound this was no help as was virgin`s help line who said after an hour of trying to help that they would pass my problem to another dept and someone would call me in up to 5 days time. So is it possible to operate the volume on the v+ box independant of the t.v. and if so how . Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Not sure if it is just the V+ boxes or the connection involved but my volume does not work either. I think it may just be to control the TV volume. Although the volume does work on the standard box I have upstairs but this is connected to the TV via scart.

But that aside, if it is connected to the received then why not just use the receiver remote???

Thanks Messiah,

I just wanted to avoid the neccessity of using 2 remotes, but if it is not possible to control the volume on the v+ hd box with the v+ remote then i shall have to use the receiver remote. Once again ,Thanks.

I just have a standard Samsung box (not V+). If I go into the settings menu of the box, there is a facility to set the volume level (which I assume relates to the output from the box) I just have this set to maximum and then use the TV volume to control it to what I want. I don't think the volume on the V boxes is designed to work in the way you want it to, it is expecting volume to be controlled by other devices, which in your case would be the AV

Another Idea .

Can you use a logitech remote to control a virgin v+ hd box , or can anyone suggest an alternative remote. If so i could program it to control both my sony a.v. receiver and the h.d. box. Am i right in my assumptions???. Any help appreciated again as i just want to cut down on the amount of remotes that the kids ,wife and myself need to use.

Admit it mate, you just don't want to share the remote

As for the Logitech thing, don't know to be honest, I'm not as well tooled up as you so don't need multi function gear. However, and I hope I'm not breaking forum rules here, but try googling it and looking on some of the other fora as there are some posts about it there.

I only have a normal V box but when I moved from the stero connector to the optical output, I could no longer use the volume control. Maybe it is because you are using a digital connection.
