Decision has been made.

Will be Hegel H360 with ATC SCM19.

But one more problem, where can I find the official SCM19 speaker stands and what do they cost?

At the ATC website they're always paired with beautiful stands but I can't find them nowhere? Hope they aren't too expensive either?

Hope to get a reduction on the speakers to invest in a speaker stand.

What speaker cable to use + 1 coax + 2 interconnects? (can't afford an extra 1000€ on extra's).

hi Tim

did you hear about ATC SCM20ASL?

it's more or less SCM 19 with active crossover and 250 watts per channel for around £4300.. this option would give you superior control over the drivers and £1000 for stands and preamp/ dac/ headphone amp so you would retain all the Hegel functionality..

Do you have the active scm40s? Have you compared the passive? If so what amp was used on the passive?

Cheers

the story goes like this:

did have SCM11 with Electrocompaniet ECI5 for a while then switched to SCM19 and kept the amp and then switched the amp to ATC SIA2.. never owned passive SCM 40 but heard them on many occasions mostly with ATC amps but also with Hegel H160. Reason I've went form ECI5 to SIA2 was too much bass with Electro amp, with SIA2 the excessive bass gone. If you're asking if I ever compared side by side SCM 40 passive with active the answer is, no..

by saying ' superior control over the drivers' I refer to ATC view on active amplification in general..

I mean, what would you choose:

a) SCM40 passive with 250 watts integrated

b) SCM40 active with 240 watts ?

What's interesting.. active SCM sounds great at all volume levels while I needed to crank up the volume on passive to get their best.. SCM40A are just as good for night sessions as well as house party..

Would be active of course.
But im commited to my hegel and love the sound and dac etc. The bass control and details etc.
Im going to have to listen to active pretty soon though

Can those Q Acoustic stands hold the ATC SCM 19's?

Never had my speakers on stands and have no clue how to do this, just mount them on the plate?

My hobbyroom (old vintage house in renovation) has a not so solid wooden floor, do I need to place something under the stands (I did this with my hifi-furniture), or are these stands solid enough on their own?

Do I need to fill them with sand (full, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4,...).

PS: the active speakers look very interesting, but a bit overkill for my budget and room.

For a more heavy industrial look, look at partington dreadnaughts or even better but overkill, the broadsides.

For a cheaper stand look at atacama stands also.

2 ways of mounting on plate

1. Use blutac (prestick)
2. Use gel pads

I dont think it makes much difference but i prefer gel pads but many on here orefer blutac.

Id half fill the stands then possibly fill up to 3/4 but not full of sand.

It will finally be the Hegel H360 and Kef R700 combination.

In worst case scenario I can move to a larger room in a few months, but according to somebody who owns the same setup my small room should be ok for the R700.

I know some gave here already advice for speaker cable, but is it possible to post a certain brand or link which/where I can buy from at the moment I order my new hifi-setup?

Thanks!

Any suggestions for speakercable to use with this setup?

I intentionally wanted to try Nordost or Chord but they're quite pricey?

Anyone experience with the new Atlas Hyper cables...

Or more affordable stuff?

(I prefer bananaplugs as termination)

Qed?

Hi Tim2010

Nice one.

Like i said standard 79 or 500 strand OFC speaker cables. We also use these standard speaker cables with the likes of Hegel's Reference H30, ATC's curved SCM40 passive monitors, etc. and if they're good enough for the H30, curved SCM40 then i feel they're also be more then good enough for the H360/R700. You should also find these standard speaker cables at local electrical stores for relatively little money.

All the best

I'm sure you'll find the Audioquest cable just fine. Over the years, I've always seemed to prefer solid core cables over multi-strand (except for a few instances with certain manufacturer's products).

Get something decent imho. Why spend thousands on electronics and skimper on wires.

At least something in the region of VdH's CS122 Hybrid. Cheap and good.

Hi drummerman

In standard 79 or 500 strand speaker cables i have recommended to the OP decent cables. If standard cables are good enough for H30 @ £11k/each then i feel they are also good enough for the H360 @ £3400.

I was planning to buy my Hegel this weekend, but just learn they will introduce new products at Munich High End in two weeks?

It seems to be another amp/streamer device? Any info?

Guess I will wait a couple of weeks to see what's coming later this year :)

Some rumours about (white) Hegel H260 with better display that will be introduced at Munich High End.

Any more info? Pricing?

I want my hegel now, but maybe it's better to wait 2 more weeks??

In terms of speakers I changed my mind again in favour of the atc scm19's...

Would the cheaper Kef LS50's sound good.... some high end sellers are saying they're exceptionally good on powerful, expensive amps and they might better the Kef R300 and R700 on such gear...

In fact two sellers told me the LS50's are the only Kef speakers they found worth having in stock. They found the R-series seriously overpriced.

I can maybe audition the LS50 with Hegel, but impossible to audition the ATC's.

Hi Tim2010

Well curved SCM19's work well with the H360. One of the reasons for this that they like a bit of control and in this respect Hegel amps have that in abundance.

Anyway let's wait and see what new toys Hegel have got up their sleeve.

All the best

Different. The R Series will give you a sweeter, warmer sound (I'm not necessarily saying they are sweet and warm in any negative way, just sweet and warm in comparison to the LS50s). The LS50s won't have the depth of the R Series, but the bass they have is well balanced, and certainly not lacking in quantity. For me, the LS50s provide a more vivid presentation, more akin to Reference (on a budget, of course).

A well designed speaker - like the ATCs and the KEFs - will always perform better with better quality amplification and more power. I'm currently using mine with a Rotel power amplifier which kicks out 500wpc into 4ohms.

In fact two sellers told me the LS50's are the only Kef speakers they found worth having in stock. They found the R-series seriously overpriced.
I suspect they're not R Series dealers... :)

LS50s are available from all KEF dealers across the UK (personally I feel they should be limited like R Series), whereas R Series is far more limited in distribution, so some dealers may only have access to Q Series, T Series, E Series, custom install, and LS50s. If they think the R500s are overpriced, then I'd love to know what they stock instead!

Hi Tim2010

Well it's not a bird, it's not a plane, it's not a H260, it's a ROST. Hegel's new amp/dac/streamer which will use their SoundEngine MK2. Looks great in white

To top it off they also showed the new MOHICAN CDP

Got my Hegel and just out of the box ...

The amp has loads of power and authority compared to my previous setup. The low end is incredibly powerful. But at the moment the midrange is quite monotonous and lacking subtlety. How much will this change after breaking in (speakers kefr700 & atlas hyper 3.5 speaker cable).

Playing from Qnap NAS. Audioquest vodka cable (between router and amp) and Supra mains/power/rest of ethernet cables (between router and nas)..

Using Bubble UPNP app, music from Twonky server and H360 as renderer.

Do I need to change settings from Bubble UPNP, or does it automatically plays hi-res audio.

Just struggling with the settings of this app, at the Hegel there's a short manual about how to configure twonky and bubble. But the Bubble-part is not very detailed in terms of settings.

Qobuz/Tidal streaming is directly from Bubble UPNP to H360 renderer?
