Have I made an expensive mistake?

Hi all,

We decided after having building work done, to invest in a projector etc. We have bought an Epson TW7000 and plugged in our Roku + stick, we were advised to buy a Denon DHT-416 soundbar and sub, the soundbar and projector are both Bluetooth but won’t connect to each other as the soundbar is not SCMS-T compatible. I bought a cheap bluetooth receiver and although it works, it’s lagging badly on sound 😱

I am out of my depth now, what was supposed to be a huge treat for the family has turned into a headache. Due to room layout I can’t have wires from back of room, where the projector is to the front of room, where the screen is, without ripping up just laid walls/ceiling/floors.

Do I just hardwire the soundbar in above our heads on the back wall or i more dosh in an AVR, I am looking at Denon AVR-X2600H - would this even work without hardwired speakers?

I am at my wits end - first world problems, I know, but 🤯 any advice?? TYIA

Hi,
Welcome to the forum. Bit of a nightmare. An AVR would still need hardwired speakers. Could you not return the soundbar for one that is compatible? Only other thing I could suggest is a better quality low latency bluetooth transmitter. This one seems to get good reviews and if it doesn't work you could always return it.

The only other advice I can give is to try one of the wireless 5.1 soundbar systems from Samsung or Sony.....or even Sonos. Get the HDMI cable from the projector to the front (you can chase it in the wall cavity.....get a specialist AV Installer if needed). Then you can do whatever you want....in terms of sound system.

A stereo pair of actives will do the job, as long as you have wall sockets near or either side of the screen. The transmitter will take a feed from either the bluetooth or the stereo mini-jack output (preferred). It will then wirelessly send the signal to the speakers. It all depends what your budget is.

Thanks for your input.

Tonestar1 - We have tried a higher spec BT transmitter, but still a bit of lag, which is a pain. The retailer who sold them to use has pretty much shrugged their shoulders and said it’s not their problem 😳

Bigboss - we rather not buy another soundbar right this minute due to above, but I have noted your recommendations just in case

JJbomber - our budget is approx £300 tops, we seem to be chucking money at this white elephant, we haven’t got a clue what actives are, so some recommendations would be appreciated. We have sockets by the screen, the projector on the wall opposite

Is it possible to run a 3.5mm cable from the output of the projector to the input of the soundbar?

Is the cheap bluetooth receiver also a transmitter? There is an option to add a bluetooth transmitter to the 3.5mm output of the projector and send that bluetooth signal to the soundbar. If not, it may be a case of buying a bluetooth transmitter. It needs to be Low Latency. I use Elegeant, but others are available.

Hi Tonestar, two years later, I am having the same problem as Islandmaid ( Epson EH-TW7100 won't connect via bluetooth to my Sharp 2.0 bluetooth soundbar due to the scms-t compatibility issue) and I saw this discussion. So I've now bought the Avantree Oasis Plus and connected that to the projector’s audio out socket. The transmitter connected to the soundbar ok, but it still won't transmit the audio! There are so many conx options with this tiny transmitter, I then tried plugging it into the soundbar, switching from TX to RX mode and connecting the projector to it via Bluetooth. Although the projector sees and appears to connect to the OasisPlus fine, the sound coming from the soundbar is very faint and has what sounds like an electrical interference buzz overlaying. I get perfect audio output when transmitting audio from my mobile phone to the soundbar directly via bluetooth, and via the current transmitter setup, plus from the projector speakers without using Bluetooth. My AV source to the projector ( a BT box) is connected via the HDMI1 socket, in case that's relevant.
I really hope you can help me sort this out! And many thanks to WhatHiFi for keeping this thread open after so long!!
