I love the sound of the gryphon allegro, but this pre is a full balanced and I have a monoblocks UR Smart 845 (RCA).I want to know if is a good ideia using a XLR/RCA adaptor (can I get a good sinergy) or using Jensen Transformers PC-2XR Balanced to Unbalanced Audio Converter - XLR to RCA , Can I get the best sound using this or is better forget and look for a good unbalanced pre-amplifier like a Hovland HP 100.

Thanks for your help

Get some Cardas RCA to XLR converters off ebay. They cost about £45 but are very good quality.

I have some. I used to use an arcam intergrated as a pre amp which only had RCA connections, using xlr interconnects with the Cardas converters. I had a Krell FPB power amp and used its XLR connnections to great effect.

I now have a Krell Kav300i intergrated and use the same XLR interconnects into its inputs and use the Cardas converters at the CD player end which only has RCA connections.

thanks for your help, I know they are different topology, any danger for the rca equipment? any decrease in sonic results if I use RCA (unbalanced ) Vs Balanced amplifiers?

I dont think there is any danger.
The only issue you might have if you use the RCA inputs on the power amp is a possible hum through the speakers. This can be solved by grounding the XLR inputs with shorting pins.

I had this issue with the Krell power amp but resorted to use the XLR converters to solve the hum issue.

As for sound quality, balanced XLR connections are supposed to be better in general but its debatable if using a pre amp's RCA output into the power amps XLR input using the converters is any better than RCA to RCA connections.
