Clear nobody else knew what they are doing. Until the cover was blown when someone picked the ADMs apart and measured the amps to 80W or less, i.e. in line with most of the rest.

Not really a fair comment. I imagine the power specs are given for the particular driver they use, which seems reasonable to me. What's the point giving specs into 2, 4, 8, 16 ohms when the amp will never be used with any other driver?

The chap measured the driver's resistance to 8 Ohm. He also demonstrated that the amplifier clips at 36V for a peak power capability of 162W and a max average power capability (RMS power) of 81W. The videos are on YouTube.

And if you turn the volume up, you can tell that there is PLENTY of power and then some.

No disagreement there! 80 genuine watts directly on the driver is still massive.

The Quested S7R and matching sub are high on my 'want list' too.

Out of interest, have you heard them? They look flexible, particularly with the controller that comes with the sub. Hardly domestic looking though.

That raises an interesting point. Why is it that AVI don't publish measurements, not submit their products for review? They're a small company who don't seem to believe in openness, to the point where the GG has put it in writing that he prefers people not to have heard his products before buying. Yet they don't hesitate to slag off the opposition - whose products are open to review, can be found at many dealers etc.

They seem so have suffered from this policy, too, in that the ADM40s proved difficult to sell even in tiny numbers - according to the GG they may have sold between 50 and 100 pairs, although another forum suggests the number may be far lower. Whatever, they weren't a great success. Surely there is a lesson about openness to be learnt there?

Let me guess - I'll bet *he* got banned...

Yes. Some of the best speakers I've ever heard and have a clear and neutral balanced sound. IMO Quested manage to combine high levels of detail and clarity with easy listening smoothness better than other studio monitor brands such as Genelec. They sound better than any passive hifi speakers that I've heard.

They're pretty by Quested's usual standards but pig ugly by normal hifi standards so I'd still prefer the ADM9's on that point alone.

My opinion Is that the AVI 9.1 peakers are over priced. Value for money is meant to be one of their selling points.

Have you heard Genelecs in the same price bracket? ofall the brands I have heard, I have been most impressed byGenelec. Although they aren't cheap.

I've heard the 6.5" Genelec's which are maybe a fraction more detailed than the Quested S7R. But maybe the Genelec's only come across as being more detailed because they're more forward sounding where the Quested are a bit smoother. Both are excellent but I do prefer the Quested.
