Ghosting on projector when displaying anything above 480i from PS3

I have a Sanyo PLV-Z1 projector connected via component to a Denon AVR-3805. My PS3 is connected to one of the component in's of this receiver. The proj is capable of displaying up to 1080i. The problem is if I try to output anything above 'standard TV' resolution (presumably 480i), the image has horrible 'ghosting', which gets worse with increasing resolutions. Kind of defeats the object of having a hi-def player. Images through my DVD-3910, upscaled to 1080i, are perfect.

Could this be only due to the cruddy quality of the PS3 lead ( I find it hard to believe that it would upset things this much), or could my receiver be mucking things up by trying to up-scale when it isn't required???

Any ideas gratefully received..

Could be the leads, have you tried conecting the PS3 directly to the projector?
Is the DVD player going through the Denon? And are you using component leads for the DVD player?
You could try swapping the DVD leads with the PS3 leads also.

Just thought,
are you puting standard DVD's in the PS3?
It could be(not sure), but if the PS3 is upscaling and then passed to the Denon and upscaling again, might be the problem.

I could be wrong.

DVD is also connected via component through Receiver, so same cable used from Rec to PJ. If you catch my drift.

I can't swap the DVD & PS3 cables as the PS3 one is a proprietary job with a PS3-specific connector at one end. That's really why I wondered if it was just the quality of the cable. My intention is to butcher the PS3 cable, replacing the existing individual cables with something more decent. I.e. create a 'homebrew' cable utilising the ps3 connector at one end...Just haven't found the time yet.ÿ

This would obvoiusly eliminate the cable if the problem still exhibited, But before I commit myself to all that time and effort, just wondered if anyone had any other guesses as to what could cause it, or if anyone had witnessed it themselves. Clare- any ideas?

To answer your other question, Del, I have the problem with Blu- Ray titles, so no upscaling should be done by the PS3. I did wonder if it could be caused by the receiver upscaling when not needed, but then- the DVD is outputting 1080i and not causing the same problem.ÿ

Thanks for your input so far, Del- keep it coming!!!ÿ

Just as an update: Ihave now solved this issue- seems it WAS the cable after all!! I made a better quality lead myself using the ps3 plug and some fairly decent video coax. The picture's 1000% better now and no ghosting! Just goes to show what a difference cables make.
