Full frequency when DVD-player downsamples 5.1 to 2.0?

Hi, I have a stereo system (Cambridge 740A) that I use for my home cinema as well (Denon DVD-1940). This off course limits me to 2.0 sound. However, more often that not, there is only a 5.1 signal on the dvd, which I have set up my 1940 to downsample to a 2.0 signal and then connect via analog outputs (Dynamic Compression is set to Off). My question is, since I'm considering buying a Dynaudio Sub 250, will I get the full frequency of sound through my system from the 2.0 output, or does the downsampling influence the sound? If it ex. completely removes the lfe signal or cuts of at ex. 40 hz I will not get much use of the sub while watching movies. Can anyone advice me?

Also, I have the DacMagic and would therefore like to use it via Coaxial from the DVD-1940 to get even better sound. But, it does not convert 5.1 sound, and it seems that I'm only able to set the sound via HDMI to 2.0 in the DVD-players setup, and not the toslink/spdif output. Any solution to that?

Thanks,

Peter
