I have just ordered a TX-26LXD70 PanasonicTV with its on-boad freeview decoder. My question is how to obtain the best possible freeview performance as well as a DVD facility. Three options seem possible:-

1. Use Panasonic's on-board decoder in conjunction with a top quality DVD player such as the Panasonic DMR-EZ27.

2. By-pass Panasonic's decoder and use the tuner in the DMR-EZ27, as well as its DVD function.

2. By-pass Panasonic's on-board decoder and instead use a top quality stand-alone PVR such as the Sagem DVR-64250T. DVD could be from the aformentioned DMR-EZ27.

Any suggestions as to the best option would be much appreciated.

I think the answer is its difficult to say Bill unless someone has actually tested and rated all 3 tuners.

My instinct says the top quality standalone box should produce the best results but instinct isn't always correct.

Just one question though, the tv you're buying is HD ready yet you're using a non HD digital source. Aren't you interested in HD?

There wasn't much wrong with the built-in tuner on the Pana TX-26LXD70 as I recall, which is why we gave it 5 stars and made it our Best 26in TV in the 2007 Awards.

Just as importantly, make sure you have a good rooftop aerial and use a decent quality cable to connect the TV to the aerial socket.

More than anything.

But how can that make a difference?

There are a lot of power cables / signal cables behind a TV set up and a good quality cable will have better screening which in turn reduces the chance of interference.
