I finally finished off my review on the HP-A8. This was a loan from SCV London, but OMG I really want one now. So sad to see it leave 🙁

Interesting review. Sounds like my experience with some of Fostex's speakers. I've seen this lurking sexily at my local electronics store but only ever had a casual listen to it functioning as a DAC when I passed through.

At current exchange rates I guess the local Japanese prices translate to something like 800 pounds for the DAC and 1200 pounds for the 'phones.

Oh wow, I heard these were cheaper from Japan but I didn't know it wiuld be by that much. I'm especially surprised that it's that way around, I thought the amp would be way more expensive to make.

The import duties and strength of the yen are going to keep a number of my favourite Japanese brands from being good value for money outside of Japan

Very keen on brands like Fostex, Esoteric and Luxman and enjoy testing them out here, but in terms of bang for your buck, they are hard to recommend to ppl in the U.K. or U.S.

The price is £1400.......

Maybe you'd prefer this

I believe they retail at around $15,000 in the U.S., although the Japanese prices probably translate to around 8000 pounds, each.

Being monoaural you'd need to get one for each channel of course.

Once you're spending those amounts I gues you'd be silly not getting the rubidium master clock generator

http://esoteric.teac.com/master_clocks/g-0rb/

Which retails for a similar amount.

Don't the Fostex products sound reasonable now?
